I had to get the Assholes out and about, off of home base, for the first time in a while.

This lame winter, with more ice than snow has made it difficult to take these two out around the hood lately. With their strength, it is hard to contain and and keep footing on our very rural streets with minimal sidewalks and narrow country roads. I am not going to be dragged up and down the streets on my ass, stomach, nor head.

With temps in the 40s, it was off to local walking/biking trains to test out the new leash/tether. I was forced to make them since they size and power that this 1 year old and nearly 2 year old puppers have amassed has shredded so many leashes and tethers in the last year. Even the newest leashes (rated for up to 150 lb dog) was fraying from just a 70-ish lb Theoren Faticus in October, after only being used a handful of times.

Since we want these two to be true huskies and lead, leashes are going to be tested to their maximum potential. Walking leashes, running leashes, bungee leashes, static leashes have been destroyed by one or both of these two healthy monsters and not by being chewed on at all. STRONG (or “STORNG” as in my unedittable Reddit post) is an understatement with Max and Theo.

I have been researching many different paracord leashes and number of strands to max out potential but came up with the best (in theory) solution… CLIMBING ROPE!

Then, how to attach clips (and which clips)? Since we use teathers with a running belt, a handle is not really important.

After a month of searching, I purchased a nice length of 10.5 mm static climbing rope with a max bearing of 4,188 lbs. I also acquired two (2) highly recommended Frog Clip Dog Buckles for attaching to their harness. To secure all up, heavy duty metal banding clips with heatshrink covering to prevent fur getting caught in metal clip, additional securing, and aesthetics.

On our first walk (since there was still ice patches), the boys “awkward waddles” of two 75+ lb Huskies was due to them being held back to from wanting to run as usual. The muscle kinetics were pretty obvious but not to one Reddit commenter.

In the end, I am happy with the first model and experiment with the Frog Clips.

Many friends and followers have asked for a leash so more may be made soon.

Now, I have to worry about a durable harness, since their current running harness are being tested and failing. Neewa Dog Gear has already replaced one due to stitching durability issue within one month of aging on Maximus Shiticus’ harness.
